Sorry, but that isn’t love.

My apartment gets a magazine subscription for a previous resident. Actually, we get a lot of magazines that were intended to go to a girl that we have never met. Tonight, I was bored and started flipping through the pages looking at the pathetic excuses for clothing advertisements and smelling the overly-floral perfume samples.

Let me say that I don’t think I have ever been as disgusted by a magazine in my life. This particular edition featured an interview and multiple page photo shoot with the actors in the new movie/glorified porn shoot “50 Shades of Grey,” an interview that I couldn’t stomach to read. The whole magazine talked about “love” and told tales of Valentine’s day. Nearly every page was littered with false ideas of love. Some seemed to sell the message that if you would wear their lipstick or dye your hair you would be irresistibly loved. You would be cherished if you would remember these ’50 tips that turn men on every time.’

The thing is, you see these magazines every day. they promise that if you have a perfectly sculpted perfectly photo shopped Brazillian booty and wax your bikini area, the perfect man of your dreams will come sweep you off your feet and carry you off into the sunset on a white horse while you wear a fabulous pair of black pumps ($378) and a new crop top and color block mini skirt (on sale for $243).  If you will do what 4 out of 5 guys think you should do you will be loved.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Sorry, y’all, but that ain’t love. Love is not a lipstick shade, a new hair dye, an over priced dress or a nail polish color. Love is not something you can buy for a low price of $19.99. Love is not something that relates to the shoes you wear or the lipstick you buy.

Let’s do a quick poll:

I don’t even have to see the results to know the result.

True love is not lust. It is not something that is shown in a distasteful movie(or as it should be called, glorified porn shoot). True love is charity. True love is not be irresistibly lustful of someone’s body. SEX DOESN’T EQUAL LOVE! photo 2No, Henry, a kiss is not the autograph of love. A kiss is just a kiss. Exercising charity towards someone is the true autograph of love. Showing Christlike compassion and sacrificing everything you have to put someone else’s needs and comfort ahead of your own, that is the autograph of love.

The bible dictionary  defines charity as “The highest, noblest, strongest kind of love.” 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 says “Charity suffereth long; and it kind; Charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself it is not puffed up…[Charity] rejoices not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth…”  Which would you prefer?  To be irresistibly lusted after or have someone love you with ‘the highest, noblest, and strongest’ kind of love that exists, a love that is king, long-suffering, and will endure the toughest and hardest times? Is that even a question?

There are so many lies that are told to us everyday. They cause us to doubt who we are and give up our standards. Guess what? You have worth. You have value. You are created for a purpose and have a light in you. That light is beautiful. The shade of lipstick that you wear can never make you more beautiful than you already are. Don’t buy into the lies that you are not enough by yourself. Don’t let anyone diminish what you have to offer. Don’t think that in order to be loved you need to act a certain way, walk a certain way, look a certain way.

Christ loves you. He loves you enough that he would atone for your sins that you may be clean and perfect through him. He suffered through all. He descended below all so that you could be free from the effects of your sin. He did it because He. Loves. You. You are infinitely beautiful to Christ

Ladies, understand that love and take your measurement of worth from that. Boys will come and go and that’s okay. Fads will  come and go. Truth will never change. It is absolute. Here is the truth. You have value. You have worth. You are beautiful and cherished by Christ and God. When the time is right and you know for a fact how much you are loved, then you will  find a man that understands that you are a daughter of God and he will treat you as such. That will be the love that will last and be as beautiful as you know you are.

Don’t settle for the lies that you read. Don’t let Satan demean you. Don’t fall for the counterfeit.

Know who you are and take a stand for true love.

“And charity suffereth long, and is kind, and envieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.Wherefore, my beloved brethren, if ye have not charity, ye are nothing, for charity never faileth. Wherefore, cleave unto charity, which is the greatest of all, for all things must fail—But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.”- Moroni 7:45-47
